Maldives Opposition coalition Deputy leader and former Housing Minister Dr Muizzu is being charged by the Prosecutor General’s Office for allegedly giving false testimony. According to sources, Dr Muizzu is being charged for allegedly giving false testimony as the witness during the arbitration of the “Noomadi” case at the Permanent Court of Arbitration in The Hague.

Criticism is being directed at the government with many members of the public accusing of the state using its control over the judiciary for political persecution and to silence the voice of the opposition. Dr Muizzu who is to be the opposition’s main candidate in the upcoming Local Council Elections enjoyed massive support from the capital city with many analysts predicting a clear win for him.
