A New South Wales man has been jailed for threatening to kill New Zealand’s prime Minister Jacinda Ardern and muslims. The far right extremist identified as Comac Rothsey was sentenced to 10 months in jail for his threats and harassment against the Muslim community and New Zealand’s Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern.
The 44 year old man was flagged by the authorities after an anonymous tip was left off at a security hotline after he posted a series of threatening posts on the Facebook, some stating his desire to remove all Muslims from Australia by stating “Kill it with fire.”. Another post included an image of Ms Jacinda Ardern with the caption “She should be shot down like an animal”.
Shortly before his arrest on the 5th of September 2019, Comac Rothsay posted on facebook that he intends to attack a Mosque with the status “ Australia Cormac Rothsey mosque raid soon. Make ya movie (sic). No turning back”. This was backed by another status claiming that there was no turning back.
Newcastle District Court Judge Tim Gartelmann who described him as “abhorrent to civilized society.” Before sentencing him to 10 months in Jail. This comes at a time when several minority groups in Australia have voiced out their concerns about the growing white supremacy extremists in the nation. Comac Rothsey was known to have admired the Christchurch terrorist Brenton Tarrant who was also a self-admitted white supremacists.
