Maldives opposition alliance, the Progressive Congress Coalition has appointed the former President Dr. Mohamed Waheed Hassan as the advisor to the coalition. In a press briefing held tonight by the joint party leadership, former President Dr. Mohamed Waheed Hassan was appointed to the post of advisor to the coalition following a joint party council meeting.
While speaking at the press briefing, former President Dr. Mohamed Waheed Hassan reassured to the coalition members that he would provide full support for the efforts to free the jailed opposition leader, former President Yameen Abdul Gayoom. Former President Dr. Mohamed Waheed Hassan is the fifth President of the Maldives following the resignation of the former Presidnet Mohamed Nasheed.
Former President Dr. Mohamed Waheed Hassan has been a member of the Progressive Party of Maldives since 2013 but has been largely out of Maldivian politics due to other undertakings. He assured to the public that he would use all his resources in the efforts to free the opposition leader and remarking that he had worked at the United Nations for 16 and has well established connections amongst the world’s diplomatic circles.
