Maldives Health protection Agency (HPA) has announced new changes to the restriction of movement imposed on the general public. Under the new rules, effective 3rd October 2020, the prohibition imposed on vehicles between 20:00 to 22:00 would be lifted. However the curfew will still remain from 22:00 to 05:00 in the greater Male’ city area.
HPA’s announcement has been well received by the public as the 2 hour 2 wheeled-vehicle restriction has been criticized by the public.
Over 10,398 cases of COVID-19 has been identified so far, making Maldives one the nations with the highest infection per capita rate in the world. 44 cases were identified yesterday with no consistent signs of the infection slowing down. The government in the meantime has been ardent on reopening the nation to tourists with guesthouses set to open on 15th October 2020. Several protocols has been implemented to cater for COVID-19 safe tourism.
