Rock legend and father of “tapping” Eddie Van Halen has passed away at the age of 65. The Dutch singer, songwriter and guitarist best known for the rock ban Van Halen formed with his brother Alex Van Halen, had been treating for throat cancer for over 5 years.
Eddie Van Halen’s son and band mate Wolfgang Van Halen made an emotional tweet revealing his father’s passing stating “ I can’t believe I’m having to write this, but my father, Edward Lodewijk Van Halen, has lost his long and arduous battle with cancer this morning. He was the best father I could ever ask for. Every moment I’ve shared with him on and off stage was a gift.”.
Eddie Van Halen has been one of the greatest rock guitarists with multiple virtuoso guitarists citing Van Halen as their source of influence. The “prince of darkness” Ozzy Osbourne made tribute to Eddie Van Halen tweeting “Eddie Van Halen was one of the nicest guys I ever worked with and we shared so many laughs together. His influence on music and especially the guitar has been immeasurable. He was an absolute legend. Eddie, I’ll see you on the other side, my friend. Love, Ozzy.”.
