Indian media has announced that the Foreign Secretary of India Harsh Vardhan Shringla will be visiting the Maldives on 10th November 2020. According to Indian media, Indian Foreign Secretary Harsh Shringla will be meeting with senior Maldivian government officials including Foriegn Minister Abdulla Shahid.
It is also speculated that Indian Foreign Secretary Harsh Shringla will be revealing Indian financed development projects in the Maldives. The current Maldivian government has been an ardent supporter of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “India First” policy under which the Maldivian government has gained the support of the Idnian government.
A $400 million loan by the Indian government was announced just weeks ago to finance the Thilafushi-Male’ connectivity project, with an additional $100 million grant totaling the project value to $500 million. Industry experts have however raised concern over the inflated price of the Thilafushi-Male bridge.
