Scientists has been left baffled after Australian children who never contracted the COVID-19 develop antibodies. According to a study published in the medical journal “Nature Communications”, scientists found that 3 children from a family of five developed antibodies for the virus without contracting the disease.
Multiple samples from the children were extensively tested in the laboratories which confirmed the baffling discovery. As early as July 2020, multiple researchers noted that certain strains of the COVID-19 virus was not observed from amongst children even in the most heavily infected areas. Scientists are yet to discover why the disease behaves differently between children and adults.
Worldwide over 1.35 million people have succumbed to the COVID-19 pandemic while 55.6 million cases have been identified. Though several promising vaccines are being developed, it is estimated that the vaccine will only be available to the whole by late 2021.
