The Maldives Marketing and Public relations Corporation (MMPRC) has announced that a virtual consumer travel fair will be held to promote Maldivian tourism. The announcement was made on www.visitmaldives.com.

The event will be marketed as “Maldives Virtual Tour Expo (MVT EXPO)” and is scheduled to be held in July 2021. The expo is set to be held at www.maldivesvirtualtour.com, enabling visitors to experience the warm sandy beaches of the Maldives virtually.

The virtual tour will feature over 2000 tours of more than 150 islands. The two weeks long expo will also feature holiday bookings with special discounts and  offers. In addition to this, the expo will also feature lucky draws to win exciting travel packages to Maldives.

The virtual expo was first launched on 31st December 2020 as means to continue marketing the tourism sector safely amidst the COVID19 pandemic. Though tourist arrivals had started to pick up in the first quarter of 2021, it has since dropped low following the massive surge in COVID19 cases in neighboring India. However, the number of arrivals are still roughly the half of what it was compared to that of the same period in 2019.
