The Health protection Agency of Maldives has just announced that it would cease administering the COVID19 vaccine in the Greater Malé Area. In a tweet made today, the Health protection Agency announced that the measures would be temporary.

However, they did not inform when the vaccination program would resume, stating that they would inform going on ahead.

This comes as the number of new daily cases reach an all-time high with over 5,231 new active cases of which 161 patients were hospitalized.   The Maldives has recorded over 30,237 COVID19 cases with 74 deaths attributed to the virus.

It is unclear whether the decision to halt the vaccination program lies solely due to the rising number of new active cases or whether it is due to the dwindling supply of vaccine doses.
