Santa Monica Studio has announced that the release of the sequel to the 2018’s massively successful hit God of War will be delayed to  2022. The game has been one of the most anticipated games since a teaser was released on 16th November 2020.

It was also revealed that the new game would be a cross generation game, available to both Playstation 4 and Playstation 5. The game would continue the story of Kratos and his son Atreus’s struggles against the Asgardian forces.

Head of Playstation Studio Herman Hulst stated that the delay for the new God of War game was due to its starting later than the other games slated to be released this year. He assured that other games such as the Horizon Forbidden West would be released on schedule. Herman Hulst stated the game was delayed to 2022 so that it would be the “amazing God of War game that we all want to play.

“And for God of War, the project started a little later. So we’ve made the decision to push that game out to next year, to ensure that Santa Monica Studio can deliver the amazing God of War game that we all want to play. With these things, something’s gotta give. It cannot be the quality of our titles, and it surely won’t be the health or the wellbeing of our amazing team.” Said Herman Hulst.

He also noted on the importance of not abandoning the 110 million Playstation 4 owners, but at the same time the importance of having showpieces for the Playstation 5. God of War has long since been a flagship series for the Playstation console due to its innovative gameplay, music and story.

Spoiler Warning!.

The long awaited sequel to 2016’s The Conjuring 2 was released on 26th may 2021. “Conjuring- The Devil Made Me Do It” is set 4 years after the events of The Conjuring 2 and opens up to an all too familiar scene with Ed and Lorraine Warren aiding in the exorcism of 8 year old David Glatzel in their home.

In a twist of events, Ed suffers a heart attack at the hands of the possessed boy and ends up receiving a heart stent, the results of which would show throughout the film.

It is in their absence that the main plot of the story uncovers as the boyfriend of David Glatzel’s sister becomes possessed and stabs his landlord 22 times. The film then sets of on a different tone to what we are used to with the other films in the Conjuring universe.

The film substantially tones down on jump scares and aims to convince the viewers that Satanism and demons exist through ambience and dialogues.

Cinematically, the film’s color grading and lighting departures from the dark and blueish hue in all the films up until now, to a warmer tone.

Another noticeable departure from the other films is the pacing. Unlike the Conjuring 1 & 2, in The Conjuring –The Devil Made Me Do It the pacing and development of the plot is much more rapid that the others. The protagonists are led in the right direction and is able to identify the antagonists far earlier than in its predecessors.

The film also has plenty of major Easter eggs to the other films in the Conjuring universe. The names of the first tormented family, “Perrons” pops up early in the film just as the “Cult of the Ram” from 2012’s Annabelle.

The Conjuring series is known for their memorable antagonists, such as Annabelle and the demon nun Valak. However, in this film the antagonist is the weakest point with no clear motivation and a very weak presence.

The Conjuring- The Devil Made Me Do it is a decent horror film suitable for newcomers and veterans. But if you are a horror buff looking expecting the same jump scar and atmospheric horror from The Conjuring 1 & 2, The Conjuring- The Devil Made Me Do It is not your cup of tea.
