In the final standings of group B Denmark beats Russia 4-1 to proceed to round of 16 with +1 goal. Interestingly all the teams in this group had the chance to play in round if 16 should they win their matches. With the opportunity all teams came prepared. Danes were at the bottom of the table before the matches but everything changed in the 90 minutes as they scored 4 goals and earned a massive victory.
Denmark managed to open the goal 38th minute of the match by Mikkel Damsgaard. Second half of the game had even more momentum. On 59th minute Yussuf Poulsen scored for Denmark making it 2-0. But Danes were slowed down as Russia got some hope with a penalty. Artem Dzyuba scored from the spot making it 2-1.
Russia could have passed to round of 16 with a draw but Denmark had to win with as many goals as possible since Finland also had a chance to proceed by winning or even loosing with a fewer goal difference. Denmark Scored another 2 goals within 5 minutes earning their first 3 points of the tournament and also +1 goal which was enough to pass them through.
After the match Denmark’s coach Kasper Hjulmand, speaking to EURO2020.com said: “I’m out of words regarding my admiration for this team. They are so strong. At the same time, I want to thank all of Denmark, the [crowd in the] stadium. The love and care that the whole of Denmark has shown us helped the boys’ power go into their legs and out in this stadium.”
Belgium won their last game of the group stage winning to proceed to round of 16 as the group winners with 9 points scoring 7 goals in the group stage, most of which scored by Lukaku. After a goal less first half Belgium managed to open the goal on 65th minute by Romelu Lukaku but the goal was ruled out. 9 minutes later Lukas Hradecky scored an own goal giving Belgium a lead. Romelu Lukaku secured the top spot of the group with Belgium’s second goal assisted by Kevin De Bruyne.
