A tour of Beijing 2022 indoor venues

With five days to go before the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games, venues are ready for a simple, safe and splendid Olympic Games.

Take a look at the indoor venues!

NATIONAL SPEED SKATING OVAL

As the only newly built ice sports venue in the Beijing competition zone, the National Speed Skating Oval, also known as the “Ice Ribbon”, boasts an ice surface of around 12,000 square meters. It can seat 12,000 spectators, making it the largest speed skating venue in Asia.

NATIONAL AQUATIC CENTER

The National Aquatic Center, which was dubbed as the “Water Cube” during the 2008 Beijing Olympics, will be “frozen” into an “Ice Cube” during Beijing 2022 to host curling events.

NATIONAL INDOOR STADIUM

The National Indoor Stadium previously hosted artistic gymnastics, trampoline gymnastics and handball events during the Beijing Olympics in 2008. After the transformation, it will be the venue for ice hockey competitions for Beijing 2022.

CAPITAL INDOOR STADIUM

As the “oldest” competition venue for Beijing 2022, the Capital Indoor Stadium will host short track speed skating and figure skating competitions.

WUKESONG SPORTS CENTER

Converting from a basketball court into an ice hockey rink within six hours, the Wukesong Sports Center will host ice hockey events.

Foreign Minister Shahid meets with the External Affairs Minister of India

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Maldives, Abdulla Shahid has met with Minister of External Affairs of India, Dr. Subramanyam Jaishankar, this evening.

During the meeting, both Ministers discussed ways to deepen the strong bonds of friendship and cooperation between the two countries. Minister Shahid expressed appreciation to the Government of India, for their continued support to the Maldives and highlighted the importance of regular consultations between the two countries. Minister Dr. Jaishankar thanked the Government of Maldives and noted the successful economic cooperation and the progress of projects that are being implemented under Indian grant assistance and line of credit schemes.

During the meeting, Minister Shahid and Minister Jaishankar reiterated the commitment of both countries to continue working closely together, bilaterally and in the international fora, on issues of mutual interest.

Minister Abdulla Shahid is on a three-day Official Visit to India, to attend the 8th edition of the Raisina Dialogue organised by the Observer Research Foundation and the Ministry of External Affairs of India.

Envoy of President meet Qasim, declined to disclose details

Special envoy of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih traveled to Sun Island Resort, and met with leader of Jumhoory Party (JP) and MP Maamigili constituency Qasim Ibrahim.

A photograph of the leader of MDP Parliamentary group Mohamed Aslam, MP for Hulhumale’ and younger brother of President Solih, Ali Niyaz meeting with Qasim has been circulating social media.

Furthermore, MP Aslam has confirmed to Sun regarding the meeting.

However, despite repeated questioning, no details pertaining to the meeting was revealed.

President Solih who won the primary election held by MDP, as well as his opponent former President Mohamed Nasheed has been working to gain the support of Qasim.

JP will be making a final decision on the path for the party during its congress slated for February 24, 25.

Qasim has contested in two elections since the current constitution came into effect. That is the one in 2008 and 2013. But he has yet to receive enough votes to move on to the second round.

Notably in all these elections, JP has always gained importance when it comes down to forming coalitions in the second round.
