MMPRC Represents the Maldives at one of the India’s Largest Mice Tourism Events, MILT Congress

Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC / Visit Maldives) is representing the destination at one of India’s largest MICE related tourism events, MILT Congress 2022.  This year’s MILT congress is being held at JW Marriott Mumbai Juhu, from 13-14th July 2022.

The MICE India & Luxury Travel Congress (MILT) is defined as the “it” event where the world gets to meet Indian MICE & luxury travel buyers. It provides the perfect opportunity for potential destinations and tourism service providers to market their products to India’s USD 93 billion outbound business travel market and USD 45 billion outbound tourism market. Over the past years, MILT has gained a reputation for bringing together carefully vetted Indian MICE buyers to meet international suppliers. Visitors to the event include; corporate travel decision makers; potential investors in the field of hospitality; leisure and travel industry. top outbound Indian travel agencies and luxury buyers; film production houses; and destination wedding planners.

MMPRC is participating in this event to market ways b+leisure travellers can “Redefine MICE” events in the Maldives. Through our participation, we are able to promote our tourism products (resorts, hotels, guesthouses and liveaboards), the scattered geography of our islands, and the privacy, safety and unique experiences our destination offers to visitors of all segments.

Participation in this event also comes as part of MMPRC’s marketing strategy for the Indian market, which is based on conducting ambient campaigns to strengthen Maldives’ brand in all major cities, identify channels to access the luxury market segment, promote affordable holiday options, and focus on specific advertising for honeymooners and family holidays, combined with guest house stays.

As of 8th June 2022, India is the leading source market for the Maldives with over 104,800 tourists visiting the destination from this market. India contributed 14.3% to the market share from the total 732,884 arrivals recorded to the Maldives during this period. India was also the largest market in 2021 with over 278,740 travellers and a market share of 22.6%. Similarly, India was the largest market in 2020 with an arrival figure of 62,960 and a market share of 11.3%.

MMPRC has been holding several activities targeting this market including E learning campaign with 2HUB, influencer & celebrity familiarisation trips, participation in fairs such as OTM 2022, Satte 2022, and TTF 2022, as well as series of special Maldives Roadshows in different Indian cities. Ongoing activities for this market include digital campaigns with Thomas Cook, PickYourTrail, and promotion on Vistara Inflight magazine. Upcoming activities planned by MMPRC for the Indian market include TV promotions, radio campaigns with top radios, JMP with airlines, Tour Operators and Travel Agencies.

MMPRC carried out 260 different marketing activities in 22 global markets last year, including fairs, roadshows, familiarisation trips, marketing campaigns, webinars, and interviews. The greatest testament to the success of these activities came late last year, as the Maldives secured the title of ‘World’s Leading Destination’ (among several other accolades) at the 2021 World Travel Awards, globally recognised as the hallmark of industry excellence. This is the second consecutive year that the Maldives had successfully earned this prestigious title, a shining testimony of the trust placed in the ‘magic of Maldivian hospitality’ by travellers from all over the globe.

Maldives Showcased at Asia’s Biggest Dive Expo

Maldives Marketing and Public Cooperation (MMPRC) has promoted Maldives at Asia’s largest dive expo, Adex Ocean Mission 2024.

Notably, Adex Ocean Mission is a global platform where investors, scientists, marine conservationists and as well as underwater photographs can join together. Simultaneously, dive operators along with dive equipment manufacturers took part in the expo. It has been 26 years since the expo first commenced.

Remarkably, MMPRC has actively engaged in promoting Maldives as a leading tourism destination, following exposure globally. The very expo was carried out from April 12 to 14 at Suntec Singapore Convention and Exhibition Centre.

Providing insight on the expo, MMPRC affirmed that persistent efforts have been made to provide updated information regarding the Maldives to those interested in diving related activities. Moreover, initiatives have been taken to create awareness about the Maldives as a central hub prioritising diving and as well as marine conservation.

One of the primary incentives of partaking in such expos is to attract tourists from the South Asian region. While the tourist arrival from the South-East Asian region amounted 58,947, the number of tourists who visited from January and February totals to 7,481.

Additionally, efforts are currently underway to initiate joint marketing campaigns and outdoor promotional campaigns following active engagements with several stakeholders targeted towards tourists arrivals from the South-East Asian market.

Minister launches Hankede Integrated Tourism Development Project

The foundation stone of the Hankede Integrated Tourism Development Project has been laid in a event held in Addu City. The project was officiated by the Minister of Homeland Security and Technology Ali Ihusaan. This initiative marks as the biggest project targetting the development of the tourism sector within the city. The project worth USD 142.9 million, aims to pave a road for Addu City to be developed sustainably, in addition to bringing advancements to the tourism industry.

Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Ihusaan observed the launch of the project was a long-awaited vision of the residents of Addu City, noting that the practical work of the project will commence in two weeks. The minister stated that this project will enhance employment prospects, creating 3,000 job opportunities.

The project was entrusted by the Maldives Fund Management Corporation to China National Electric Engineering Company (CNEEC). The pertaining agreements signed by the companies on March 23, 2023, outlines the development of the project through engineering, procurement, and constructions required.

Providing an insight on the project, Maldives Fund Management Corporation revealed that the Hankeda project will have the capacity to accommodate 2,082 beds along with 1,041 rooms. It further disclosed that a variety of hotels of different standards will be established under the project. This encompasses of two grand hotels, two deluxe hotels, ten boutique hotels, 64 serviced apartments and seven beach villas. Several additional facilities will be provided under the project, including a knowledge centre, mix sport building, outdoor beach sports, theatre and other such entertainment facilities. Building will also be developed designated for food courts, restaurants and small firms.

The project will undoubtedly serve as a transformative endeavour to the entire city, bringing revolutionary changes to the tourism sector as well.

Fuvahmulah city council initiates tourism zone development project

The Fuvahmulah City Council has launched a significant project aimed at developing a tourism zone within the city, covering an expansive area of 12 hectares. An agreement laying the groundwork for this transformative endeavor was recently signed between the Fuvahmulah City Council and Regional Airports, symbolising a pivotal step towards its realization. Mayor Ismail Rafeeq and the Managing Director of Regional Airports, Ahmed Mubeen, officiated the contract signing.

The comprehensive two-year agreement delineates the collaborative responsibilities of Regional Airports and the city council, encompassing investor recruitment, project design, and development. Mayor Ismail Rafeeq articulated his vision for the project, emphasizing the establishment of recreational service centers alongside accommodations for tourists.

With a focus on attracting more visitors to the city, Mayor Rafeeq highlighted ongoing efforts to bolster Fuvahmulah’s air transportation infrastructure. Plans are underway to commence physical work on the development before the year’s end, underscoring the council’s commitment to swift progress. Additionally, discussions are ongoing to explore the potential expansion of Fuvahmulah’s airport to accommodate jet landings.

Fuvahmulah City is renowned for its acclaimed diving spots, drawing a significant number of tourists seeking immersive experiences. Presently, the city boasts 21 guesthouses, catering to the influx of visitors flocking to explore its natural wonders.
