LONDON, Nov. 5 (Xinhua) — Liverpool’s Colombian winger Luis Diaz scored a 95th-minute header to save his side from defeat away to Luton Town and to send a message to his kidnapped father back home.
After missing two Liverpool games, Diaz came on in the 83rd minute in Sunday’s Premier Leauge match against Luton and netted at the far post when it looked as if Tahith Chong’s 80th-minute goal was going to give the recently promoted side their second win of the campaign.
After scoring the goal, Diaz lifted his shirt to show the message “Libertad Para Papa” (Freedom for Dad). Both of Diaz’s parents were abducted in the small Colombian town of Barrancas last weekend. His mother was rescued within hours by police.
Manchester City went top of the league ahead of Tottenham’s game against Chelsea on Monday, after thrashing Bournemouth 6-1.
The excellent Jeremy Doku put City ahead and gave four assists as Bernardo Silva netted twice, while Manuel Akanji, Phil Foden, and Nathan Ake all got into the act.
There was controversy as Anthony Gordon scored the only goal of the game to give Newcastle a 1-0 win at home to Arsenal,
The goal was only given after the VAR check to see if the ball had previously gone out of play and if Newcastle’s Joelinton had pushed Gabriel, and if Gordon had been offside.
Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta said he “felt sick” after the decision.
Bruno Fernandes scored with a curling shot in injury time to give Manchester United a 1-0 win away to Fulham and lift some pressure on United coach Erik ten Hag.
The game looked destined for a draw and it is clear United still need to improve if they are to challenge for a top-four finish.
Brentford made it five wins in five games against West Ham since their promotion to the Premier League as they beat David Moyes’ team 3-2.
Neal Maupay put Brentford ahead in the 11th minute, but Mohammed Kudus and Jarrod Bowen after 19 and 26 minutes gave West Ham the lead. Konstantinos Mavropanos deflected a cross into his own net to make it 2-2, and Nathan Collins’ far post finish gave Brentford three big points.
Nottingham Forest also took a big win to end a six-game run without a victory with a 2-0 win at home to Aston Villa. Harry Toffolo was the architect for Forest, setting up an early opener for Ola Aina and for Orel Mangala’s second-half strike, although Villa keeper Emiliano Martinez made a mess of judging Mangala’s shot, allowing it to pass over the line.
Oliver Norwood scored a 100th-minute penalty as Sheffield United beat Wolves 2-1 to win for the first time this season.
Cameron Archer had given Sheffield a 72nd-minute lead, though Jean-Ricner Bellegarde’s 89th-minute goal looked to have given Wolves a point before the late injury-time drama.
Everton and Brighton drew 1-1 with Vitalii Mykolenko’s seventh-minute opener canceled out by Ashley Young’s 84th-minute own goal.
Finally, Burnley created and missed plenty of chances as Jeffrey Schlupp and Tyrick Mitchell gave Crystal Palace a 2-0 win at Turf Moor.
